Project Overview
These electric barriers are the primary means of preventing the migration of invasive Asian carp into the Great Lakes from the Mississippi system, where they have become a major nuisance. Smith-Root constructed a demonstration barrier in 2001, a permanent Barrier llA in 2009, and is currently installing equipment for a duplicate Barrier llB at the site near Romeoville, IL. Parkin Engineering designed the structures supporting the electrodes and housing the electronics for Barrier llA, and we have been actively involved in structural aspects and the project management of Barrier llB.
